Whereabouts Information
Athletes in the Registered Testing Pool (RTP) must provide detailed whereabouts information to ensure they can be located for no-notice testing. This critical component of anti-doping efforts aims to maintain the integrity of sports by making athletes available for out-of-competition testing.
Submitting Whereabouts
Whereabouts information must be submitted quarterly via the Anti-Doping Administration and Management System (ADAMS), a secure online platform designed to streamline the management of anti-doping activities globally. This information includes:
Compliance and Consequences
Filing Failures: Occur when an athlete provides inaccurate, incomplete, or late whereabouts information
Missed Tests: If an athlete is not available during their specified 60-minute slot, it may result in a missed test. Three whereabouts failures within a rolling 12-month period can lead to an Anti-Doping Rule Violation and a potential two-year ban from sport.
Using Athlete Central
Athletes are strongly encouraged to use Athlete Central, WADA’s mobile application, for submitting and updating whereabouts. This tool simplified the process, making it easier for athletes to maintain accurate and current information.
How to Avoid Whereabouts Failure
Retirement and Return to Sport
Retirement Notification: Athletes must notify the anti-doping agency as soon as they decide to retire from sport.
Return to Sport: Athletes wishing to return to competition after leaving must provide six months’ written notice before they can compete again.
